Beautiful Disaster

Beautiful Disaster - Jamie McGuire I guess I'm one of those who did not buy into the premise of this book and I did not enjoy it at all. I loved fight club the movie, so I thought I'd like this one in some way. Nope.

The writing is very juvenille. I rolled my eyes when he sang out in a crowded cafeteria and others sang with him?

Then he beat the crap out of someone in the same cafeteria to no consequence.

When she went to vegas to earn some money for her loser gambling Dad, i thought it jumped the shark, and I had to skim pages for my sanity. The ending is a bit out there too with death and fire and such. Weird.

Her first time almost happens when she's wasted. When they do it finally, the sex scene is short and non-specific.

People were ranting over the physics lab scene but I barely remembered it, so I went to look it up, and it was all of one line, something like "He pulled me into the physics lab and I wrapped my legs around him" fade to black.

Travis did not abuse her. He never hit her. He hit other people. I would not say this book condones abusive relationships. Unless you think the controlling angry bit is abuse. I don't consider it abuse, it's just the formula for these stories. The concept of all consuming love, unconditionally and irrevocably.

If taken too literally, it can be a bad message for kids, but I don't think anyone under 18 should read this book. I feel the same about Twilight (and I'm a fan of Twilight). It's fantasy. it's fiction folks.

This book simply required the buy-in that Travis is sexy and can do no wrong. i didn't buy-in and didn't enjoy it.
