Broken

Broken - Megan Hart this is a smart book. The words are smart and subtle. There was only ONE typo!!! Amazing. "know" when it should say "knew" and they spelled dessert correctly! Very refreshing after some of the not smart books I've been reading. This one reminded me of thoughtless, the way the leads use few words and you are left to interpret their emotions yourself. I would recommend this to someone looking for a more challenging read, with lots of sex too. LOL.

Spoilers below.

the underlying story of self awareness was subtle, but there. I would actually have liked more of a confession from Joe at the end. To see what he was thinking the whole time, whether he was telling the truth.

I would have liked a longer epilogue to tie it together at the end, more time with them together, but i think that was left out because of the sensitive matter of the loss. i liked the way they treated it and did not turn it into a ruthless tear jerker (like in Slammed)

I liked the theme of how caretaking can be draining. "I dont have a problem with anyone who thinks devoting their entire life to the happiness and comfort of someone else, be it a husband or a child, is what makes them a good person. My problem is when they act like anyone who doesn't spend hours scrapbooking every freaking detail of their kids first tooth is not only a bad person, but a shitty mother too"

Caretaking kids is hard, but they do get better and advance. Caretaking a lover is very painful because they often get worse. They become angry and lash out, and they can't give what they used to give and feel embarassed. It's difficult to know someone who is your whole life is dying and saying they don't love you anymore out of fear and frustration.

Unfortunately, caretaking of a spouse or parent ends with loss. The books explores the release of it combined with the guilt for feeling relieved. Anyone who's lived thru this will understand and appreciate.

I liked the way the sex was threaded thru the book in sort of a fantasy way and the way joe and her came together and it was special.

I would have liked more explanantion of why she rejected him at first.

I'm going to be reading some more megan hart as i've been craving some smart sexy books. Smexy.
